Statement from Fulton City Councilor, Ryan Taylor

It is with a heavy heart that I am resigning from the Fulton Common Council.

For over a decade, I have voted in Fulton’s 6th Ward. It was recently brought to my attention that the 200 blocks of Utica Street South and Rochester Street North are actually in the 5th ward yet those of us who live here have been provided with the wrong polling place and ballots for many years. Due to this mistake, I believed that I was eligible to run for the City Council in the 6th ward. After receiving the required number of signatures on my petitions, the Board of Elections deemed me eligible to run for this office. When I won the election in November 2023, the Board of Elections certified the results and the City of Fulton swore me in as a Councilor.

I call on the two new Commissioners at the Oswego County Board of Elections to rectify this error immediately and restore the confidence of the voters of Fulton I served my country honorably in Afghanistan where I was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in combat to uphold our rights as Americans. I cannot in good conscience stay on the common council. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of 6th ward and the City of Fulton and I will continue to do my part as a private citizen to improve our city for all of us.

With gratitude to the Sixth Ward for all of your support,

Ryan Taylor
