Statement from the Chair of the Oswego County Democratic Committee on The Attack of Donald Trump
The Oswego County Democratic Committee condemns all violence, and our hearts go out to those impacted by this heinous act. Political acts of violence threaten the safety and welfare of all people and have no place in a civil society. Our party is united against any individual that commits violence in the name of political discord.
Our hearts and thoughts are with the former president, Donald J. Trump, and his family, and wish them healing and safety as they process this horrific assault. Additionally our hearts go out to the families and individuals impacted by this tragic loss of life, and those injured because of this senseless, violent act.
As a party we are dedicated to fighting against violence of any type, and promote safe and responsible gun ownership. We will continue to advocate for common sense gun laws, background checks, and mental health evaluations of those who wish to own firearms.
We believe that as a civil society we should value the voices of all, and the right to express our opinions without fear of violence. Similarly we believe in our Second Amendment right to own a gun for hunting and self protection.
Violent rhetoric is unacceptable in political discord. Words matter. It is imperative that we denounce acts of violence, and promote safety in our country and communities. We stand united in our commitment to a peaceful and inclusive country, where all people can thrive without fear of violence.
While all of the details are not known at this time, we urge everyone to be patient while law enforcement investigates. Peace, safety, and a civil society is the goal for all.
